Key Takeaways

  • Telehealth services from MediLeave let you speak with a qualified practitioner by phone or video, so you can get advice and request medication scripts without visiting a clinic.
  • Online prescriptions (eScripts) are legally recognised in Australia and can be used at most local pharmacies.
  • An Australian-registered doctor will review your symptoms and issue a prescription if it’s clinically appropriate, just like an in-person visit.
  • Same-day appointments and extended hours make it easier to access care around work, travel or family commitments.
  • Telehealth suits many everyday health needs, but more complex or urgent conditions may still require in-person care.

Online prescriptions give you access to medications without the typical hassles of waiting rooms and in-person visits.

Mornings often begin with packed schedules: emails to manage, meetings to coordinate and little time to spare. When a pressing health concern arises, addressing it traditionally means stepping away from work to visit a doctor. Online scripts Australia-wide simplify this process, making it easier to get the quick prescriptions you need without disrupting your day.

MediLeave is here to connect Australians with affordable and patient-centred healthcare when they need it, offering a stress-free path through digital solutions. With a commitment to safety and efficiency, we stand as your trusted telehealth partner.

Telehealth is becoming a go-to for convenient everyday care.

Telehealth lets you speak with a qualified healthcare provider by phone or video, so you don’t need to visit a clinic in person. It’s a simple way to get advice, treatment and, if clinically appropriate, online pharmacy prescriptions. It doesn’t matter whether you’re at home, at work or on the go anywhere in Australia.

One of the main benefits is convenience.

You can avoid travel, long waiting rooms and time off work. In many cases, appointments are available the same day, which can be helpful for non-emergency concerns like minor infections, repeat prescriptions online or general medical advice.

Telehealth can also make a big difference for people living in rural or remote areas, where access to same-day prescriptions and other forms of in-person care may be limited. Instead of travelling long distances, you can connect with a doctor online from wherever you are, helping you get support sooner.

It’s important to know that telehealth isn’t suitable for every situation. If your condition needs a physical examination or urgent care, you may be advised to attend a clinic or hospital. But for many everyday health needs, it’s a practical, reliable option that fits more easily into your routine.

If you’re unsure whether telehealth is right for you, a consultation with an online doctor for prescription medication can help guide your next step.

Online prescriptions are backed by trusted, safe and approved processes.

It’s normal to wonder if online health scripts are as valid as paper ones.

In Australia, electronic scripts (often called “eScripts”) have been legal nationwide since 2019. Online scripts follow the same medical and legal standards as traditional scripts, so they’re recognised and accepted across the country.

You might also be asking whether your local pharmacy will accept one.

The answer is yes. Most community pharmacies across Australia are set up to process digital medication scripts. Once issued, your prescription is sent securely (usually as a code via SMS or email), which the pharmacist scans to dispense your medication. That said, it’s a good idea to check with your pharmacy ahead of time.

While a doctor prescription online is widely supported, some smaller or independent pharmacies may not yet be fully set up to process them. A quick call can help avoid any delays and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Safety is another common concern.

You don’t have to worry because online prescriptions are issued by qualified practitioners using secure systems that meet national healthcare standards. These systems are encrypted, which means your information is protected, and the prescription, whether you’re requesting a UTI script online or something else, can’t be changed once it’s created.

Importantly, using a prescription service online still involves a proper clinical review. A doctor will assess your situation and only issue a prescription if it’s clinically appropriate. Approval isn’t guaranteed and depends on your individual needs, just like a face-to-face visit.

In short, it’s safe, legitimate and widely accepted to get prescriptions online in Australia, and it even makes getting your medication simpler and more convenient.

MediLeave provides a trusted way to access online prescriptions across Australia.

We connect you with qualified Australian-registered healthcare professionals operating in line with RACGP and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) standards. That means your online doctor consultation follows recognised clinical standards, just like an in-person visit.

Our platform is designed to keep things simple. You choose the service you need, complete a short online consultation, and a practitioner reviews your request. If it’s clinically appropriate, a doctor may provide you with a prescription sent as an eScript that you can take to a pharmacy on your phone.

This process supports safe, convenient access to an online doctor Australia-wide without unnecessary steps.

Access same-day appointments and extended hours.

We know healthcare needs like online prescriptions don’t always fit into business hours. We offer same-day telehealth appointments, with extended hours from 7am to 11pm AEST, 7 days a week.

You can speak with a practitioner from anywhere in Australia. There’s no travel, waiting rooms or time off work required. This can be especially helpful if you live in a rural area, have limited mobility or just need care that fits around a busy schedule.

We make it easier to access timely support when you need it and in a way that works for you.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will I definitely get a prescription?

Just like a medical certificate for work, online prescriptions are issued only after a qualified doctor reviews medical history, symptoms and treatment suitability. Approval is not automatic, as practitioners follow strict medical guidelines and apply professional judgement.

If a condition requires further investigation or is unsuitable for telehealth, the doctor may decline or recommend an in-person consultation.

Can all medications be prescribed online?

Not all medications can be prescribed online. Many common medications are available through telehealth, but controlled or high-risk drugs require closer monitoring. Medications with high misuse or dependency risk are typically not prescribed online and require management by a regular GP.

Do I need a video consultation?

Australian guidelines require a real-time consultation before issuing online prescriptions. You can complete this consultation through a phone call or video appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our telehealth services

At MediLeave, you can request instant scripts online at any time, as our bookings are available 24/7.

A doctor will review each request to assess the situation and determine whether a prescription or specialist referral online is clinically appropriate, ensuring that care remains safe, responsible and based on individual needs.

When requesting online prescriptions or eScripts in Australia, you will need to provide a few key details, such as your personal information and a short summary of your health concern or request.

It is also a requirement in Australia that, in order to receive an eScript, you must either have a Medicare number or an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). This is because your identity needs to be verified through the national healthcare system.

If you don’t have either of these, you can still have a telehealth consultation and receive a paper prescription instead.

Getting an IHI is the workaround if you want a digital prescription. You can still apply for an IHI online via myGov using an ID like a passport, even if you’re:

  • a visitor
  • an international student
  • not eligible for Medicare

Once you have an IHI, you can use eScripts like anyone else.

Even with access to the best online doctor Australia has to offer, script consultations are conducted privately on a one-on-one basis, ensuring a personal and discreet experience.

At MediLeave, users join a queue and receive a direct call from a doctor, allowing the discussion to remain confidential. All information provided is treated as personal and sensitive health data in line with Australian privacy laws.

To support data protection, we use 256-bit bank grade security and encryption to protect your personal and medical information throughout the consultation process.

For repeat prescriptions, your pharmacist will send you a new QR code after each repeat is dispensed. This happens until all the repeats are complete, so you will need to keep the new message until it’s time to get your medicine again.

If you accidentally delete a message with a QR code you will need to go back to your doctor to ask for a new eScript, just like you would if you lost a paper script.

Yes. Your details and script are kept private and secure through encryption (a secure way of sending information). Your script can only be ‘unlocked’ by a pharmacist.

Our team of Partner Doctors are fully registered Australian doctors who can prescribe any medication that is clinically appropriate for your needs. All our doctors follow AHPRA guidelines to ensure safe and responsible care.

Please note that some medications cannot be prescribed via a telehealth consultation such as S8 medications, controlled substances, narcotics or any controlled drugs and medications requiring close monitoring by a doctor. Our partner doctors reserve the right to decline prescribing any medication or refusing to provide Medical Certificates, based on their professional medical advice.

At MediLeave we uphold the highest standards of healthcare. Online Prescriptions will only be issued if deemed appropriate by our doctors.

There are various reasons why you may be declined access for a prescription, and the doctor has the authority to decline your request if they determine that it is not in your best interest or suitable for your condition. Other reasons could be due to contraindications, your medical history or the absence of a definitive diagnosis. In such circumstances, the doctor will recommend an alternative treatment that is better suited to you or recommend that you seek further assistance and advice in person.

1. First of all, check with the doctor that they have your correct details- a typo on your phone number or email can create this problem. Sometimes there might have been an issue with internet/ wi-fi connection at the moment the eScript was sent, and it might take a few minutes to come through to you.

2. If it still does not arrive, the doctor can double check on their side to see if there was an issue with sending it (this can happen if there is a problem with a person’s Medicare details or “IHI” number (individual health identifier).

3. If the issue still persists the doctor may try to “re-send” it to you, and see if that works.

4. If this still fails, please email our team : info@medileave.com.au for assistance.

Yes, most community pharmacies accept electronic prescriptions (escripts) An eScript is a digital version of a paper script, which the doctor sends you to your phone/email as a QR code or token. Whilst most pharmacies accept and can process escripts, it is best to check with the pharmacy if they are able to accept escripts as some small pharmacies, for example, may not be equipped to process escripts yet.

Yes, if you are a carer or guardian, although the patient needs to provide their consent to the doctor.

Our Partner Doctors cannot prescribe Schedule 8 (S8) or Schedule 4D (S4D) medications via telehealth.

Once the doctor approves your prescription during your consultation, the script is sent instantly via sms or email to you, within minutes
