Incredibly fast and straightforward! I used this service to get a single-day medical certificate and the entire process took less than 15 minutes from start to finish. The online questionnaire was simple to fill out, and the digital certificate arrived straight to my email inbox as a PDF. Highly recommend for anyone needing quick, legitimate sick leave documentation without the long waiting room lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our telehealth Medical Certificates

No – in most cases you won’t need a video call. Although “tele” is in the name, the process starts with a short online questionnaire that takes just a few minutes. An Australian AHPRA-registered doctor then reviews your request and a brief phone may suffice for any follow-up information.

A video consultation is only used where the doctor considers it clinically necessary — for example, if they need to visually assess a symptom before issuing a certificate. That’s the doctor’s decision, made in line with RACGP telehealth guidance, and it’s always about making sure your assessment is safe and appropriate.

Both are legitimate telehealth consultations with an AHPRA-registered Australian doctor -the only difference is how you connect.

A phone consult is our standard approach. You complete a short online questionnaire, and the doctor calls you to discuss your symptoms and ask any follow-up questions. It’s quick, works anywhere with mobile reception, doesn’t rely on data or a stable internet connection, and suits most everyday requests like telehealth medical certificates for sick leave or carer’s leave.

A video consult adds a visual assessment. It’s used when the doctor needs to actually see something to make a safe clinical decision — a rash, a swollen joint, an eye or skin problem, or a wound that needs reviewing. Video also helps when a condition is more complex and the doctor wants a fuller picture before advising on treatment.

You don’t need to work out which one you need. Complete your request and the doctor will decide what’s clinically appropriate, in line with RACGP telehealth standards. If they’d like to switch to video, they’ll let you know during the call and send you a link — no app download required.

Either way, if your request is approved, your certificate, referral or eScript is sent straight to your inbox.

Yes. A medical certificate issued after a telehealth consultation carries exactly the same legal standing as one issued in a clinic. Australian law doesn’t distinguish between the two — what matters is that the certificate is issued by a registered health practitioner acting within their scope of practice, based on an appropriate assessment.

Under the Fair Work Act 2009, employees are entitled to paid sick and carer’s leave and must provide their employer with reasonable evidence that the leave was taken for a permitted reason. A telehealth doctors certificate from a registered practitioner is the most common form of that evidence, however it’s delivered. Telehealth itself is well established in Australian practice, governed by AHPRA’s telehealth guidance and RACGP standards.

Every MediLeave certificate is issued by an Australian-based, AHPRA-registered doctor and includes the practitioner’s name, provider details and the dates you’re certified as unfit for work — the information employers, schools and universities need.

Two practical notes. First, some workplaces have their own policies about the format or timing of evidence, so it’s worth checking with your workplace as to their specific policy. Second, a doctor can only issue a certificate where it’s clinically appropriate – it is solely up to the issuing doctor to determine if a certificate is appropriate for you. Note: Due to patient confidentiality, your symptoms/illness is not included on the certificate. The certificate will state that the patient is unfit to work or study during the specified period.

Yes – the length is a clinical decision made by the doctor based on your symptoms, how long they’re likely to affect you and the nature of your work.

For most common short-term illnesses like a cold, gastro or a migraine, a 2 day medical certificate is typical, because that reflects how long you’re genuinely expected to be unfit for work. Requests for a 2 day medical certificate online are among the most common we see, and a telehealth consult is well suited to them. Where a condition is likely to keep you off longer, a doctor can certify a longer period – but the further out the certification extends, the more information they’ll need to justify it. That may mean a video consultation, a more detailed history, or a recommendation that you see your regular GP in person, particularly if you’ll need ongoing management or a review before returning to work.

Yes. You don’t need a Medicare card to request a medical certificate through MediLeave.

Medical certificate consultations aren’t bulk billed — they’re privately billed, so you pay a flat, upfront fee regardless of your Medicare status. That means the process is exactly the same whether you’re a Medicare cardholder or not: international students, working holidaymakers, visa holders and overseas visitors can all request a certificate, and the price you see is the price you pay. There’s no Medicare rebate to claim afterwards, and no need to prove assessment.

There's no need to attend an in-person appointment with MediLeave, as you can access online prescriptions, general health advice, referrals and medical certificates. Our telehealth service makes healthcare more accessible wherever you are, whether you're in a remote area, managing mobility challenges or balancing responsibilities.

Whether you have been searching for "Covid Certificate", "Beta Blockers Prescription Online" or "Guildford After Hours Doctors", a practitioner can address various common health concerns and needs such as migraines, urinary tract infections or gastro. If your practitioner deems it clinically appropriate, they can also arrange a referral for a blood test, radiology or a specialist.

We offer a telehealth service that keeps the process simple: if approved, your medical certificate, prescription or referral can be delivered digitally by email or SMS. So, if you have been interested in "travel injections for bali", "prescriptions online" or "medical certificate online 2 days", speak with a doctor today.
