Key Takeaways

  • Electronic prescriptions (or eScripts) can be sent to your phone or email, replacing paper prescriptions.
  • You can consult an Australian-registered doctor online and receive a prescription the same day, if clinically appropriate.
  • Doctor-provided eScripts are legally valid, secure and accepted at pharmacies across Australia.
  • The process saves time by avoiding clinic visits and reducing delays for prescriptions or treatment for minor conditions.
  • Services like MediLeave also support specialist and blood test referrals, sick certificates and general care in one simple online flow.

An electronic prescription service is a modern-day ally in your healthcare journey.

Electronic prescriptions offer convenience over traditional paper prescriptions, fitting seamlessly into your daily routine. Instead of grappling with lost paper slips or waiting in crowded waiting rooms, you can receive your prescription digitally after an online doctor consultation Australia-wide.

You save crucial time with eScripts, allowing you to tackle the day without unnecessary detours. It’s a prescription service online that caters to fast-paced lifestyles while maintaining a high standard of care.

MediLeave is here to make this service accessible and reliable. As a leading telehealth platform in Australia, we connect you with a trusted telehealth doctor for electronic prescriptions, making the process straightforward, secure and tailored to fit your life seamlessly.

Traditional prescriptions can be slow and inconvenient.

Getting traditional prescriptions can take a long time.

We’ve all been there, waiting days for a GP appointment and then trudging to a clinic only to find a crowded waiting room. This drawn-out process halts access to essential medications, creating hurdles especially for minor or repeat conditions. And these delays are even more of a burden if you’re living in rural areas or juggling a hectic schedule.

For Australians, this creates a time-consuming barrier to prompt care.

Unlike instant scripts online, paper prescriptions can be the source of another headache.

They’re easy to lose, damage or forget, especially when it’s crunch time and you need your medication. What’s more, juggling multiple scripts can add confusion, leading to potential gaps in treatment. This lack of organisation can disrupt your healthcare regimen and add stress, which are challenges no one needs when staying on top of their health.

For many, it’s simply too cumbersome. It’s high time for something better.

Get fast, legitimate prescriptions online with MediLeave.

We connect you to registered doctors online.

Our electronic prescription service simplifies your healthcare experience. We connect you with Australian doctors registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) through an easy online consultation.

No need for those tedious in-person visits. You can request a new or repeat prescription effortlessly, and if clinically approved, the same-day electronic prescription service sends it to you digitally.

This telehealth process for prescriptions, just like our online sick certificate service, is streamlined, allowing you to access care from anywhere in Australia, often on the same day.

Our telehealth prescription service is secure and widely accepted.

Electronic prescriptions are legally valid and accepted at pharmacies across Australia. They are part of a government-supported system and are legally recognised as a valid alternative to paper prescriptions throughout Australia.

These prescriptions are delivered through the Australian government’s digital eRX encrypted secure platform, keeping your personal and prescription data private and protected. Also, most pharmacies across the nation accept eScripts, letting you fill your prescription at your preferred location without hassle.

This level of security in our electronic prescription service means your data remains confidential throughout the entire process. With full eScript compliance, MediLeave now provides a service that not only boosts convenience but also greatly strengthens continuity of care for individuals who depend on regular medications or prompt treatment for common conditions.

With a trusted eScript provider in Australia by your side, accessing and filling your prescriptions is quick and easy, giving you peace of mind knowing you’re using a legitimate system. You can finally get back to focusing on what’s important: your health and wellbeing.

Our electronic prescription service simplifies the entire process.

With us, it’s simple to request both new and repeat prescriptions online without the usual wait times. You start with a short form, then have a remote video or doctor for telehealth consultation appointment through our platform on the same day.

After your online GP consultation for eScripts, your prescription is approved if your doctor deems the request clinically appropriate. The eScript is then sent to you quickly, often within minutes, by SMS or email.

This is a secure electronic prescription delivered as a link or message with a unique QR code. Instead of a paper script, you simply show this code to your pharmacist.

They scan it to access your medication details and dispense your medicine as usual. There is no need to return to a clinic, which can save you time and extra travel.

Our service is available 7 days a week with extended hours, so you can access our electronic prescription service when it suits your schedule. It is designed to be efficient but never rushed. Your request is always reviewed by a qualified doctor to ensure it is safe and appropriate.

Beyond prescriptions, we also support other everyday healthcare needs. You can also get a sick certificate online, get referrals to see a specialist or get a blood test done, and receive general health advice, all in one place.

It is a straightforward way to manage your care, with clear steps, timely support and no unnecessary hassle.

Is the process safe and private?

The electronic prescription service process is safe and private because we use a secure, encrypted and government-compliant platform to protect personal and health information. The electronic prescription is transmitted as a secure digital token that only a pharmacist can unlock, ensuring confidential handling under bank-grade encryption and strict privacy policies.

Can my doctor resend my electronic prescription?

Our electronic prescription service allows doctors to resend an eScript if you lose your QR code token. Electronic prescriptions update automatically for repeats, and pharmacists issue a new QR code after each dispense. If you delete your token, request a replacement e-script from your doctor, similar to replacing a lost paper prescription.

Can electronic prescriptions be used overseas?

Even if you get them from the best online doctor Australia offers, electronic prescriptions issued in the country are generally not valid for use in overseas pharmacies, as regulations surrounding medications may vary.

You may obtain medication overseas by consulting a local doctor who issues a prescription under that country’s laws. Also, check any requirements before travelling.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our telehealth services

At MediLeave, you can request instant scripts online at any time, as our bookings are available 24/7.

A doctor will review each request to assess the situation and determine whether a prescription or specialist referral online is clinically appropriate, ensuring that care remains safe, responsible and based on individual needs.

When requesting online prescriptions or eScripts in Australia, you will need to provide a few key details, such as your personal information and a short summary of your health concern or request.

It is also a requirement in Australia that, in order to receive an eScript, you must either have a Medicare number or an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). This is because your identity needs to be verified through the national healthcare system.

If you don’t have either of these, you can still have a telehealth consultation and receive a paper prescription instead.

Getting an IHI is the workaround if you want a digital prescription. You can still apply for an IHI online via myGov using an ID like a passport, even if you’re:

  • a visitor
  • an international student
  • not eligible for Medicare

Once you have an IHI, you can use eScripts like anyone else.

Even with access to the best online doctor Australia has to offer, script consultations are conducted privately on a one-on-one basis, ensuring a personal and discreet experience.

At MediLeave, users join a queue and receive a direct call from a doctor, allowing the discussion to remain confidential. All information provided is treated as personal and sensitive health data in line with Australian privacy laws.

To support data protection, we use 256-bit bank grade security and encryption to protect your personal and medical information throughout the consultation process.

For repeat prescriptions, your pharmacist will send you a new QR code after each repeat is dispensed. This happens until all the repeats are complete, so you will need to keep the new message until it’s time to get your medicine again.

If you accidentally delete a message with a QR code you will need to go back to your doctor to ask for a new eScript, just like you would if you lost a paper script.

Yes. Your details and script are kept private and secure through encryption (a secure way of sending information). Your script can only be ‘unlocked’ by a pharmacist.

Our team of Partner Doctors are fully registered Australian doctors who can prescribe any medication that is clinically appropriate for your needs. All our doctors follow AHPRA guidelines to ensure safe and responsible care.

Please note that some medications cannot be prescribed via a telehealth consultation such as S8 medications, controlled substances, narcotics or any controlled drugs and medications requiring close monitoring by a doctor. Our partner doctors reserve the right to decline prescribing any medication or refusing to provide Medical Certificates, based on their professional medical advice.

At MediLeave we uphold the highest standards of healthcare. Online Prescriptions will only be issued if deemed appropriate by our doctors.

There are various reasons why you may be declined access for a prescription, and the doctor has the authority to decline your request if they determine that it is not in your best interest or suitable for your condition. Other reasons could be due to contraindications, your medical history or the absence of a definitive diagnosis. In such circumstances, the doctor will recommend an alternative treatment that is better suited to you or recommend that you seek further assistance and advice in person.

1. First of all, check with the doctor that they have your correct details- a typo on your phone number or email can create this problem. Sometimes there might have been an issue with internet/ wi-fi connection at the moment the eScript was sent, and it might take a few minutes to come through to you.

2. If it still does not arrive, the doctor can double check on their side to see if there was an issue with sending it (this can happen if there is a problem with a person’s Medicare details or “IHI” number (individual health identifier).

3. If the issue still persists the doctor may try to “re-send” it to you, and see if that works.

4. If this still fails, please email our team : info@medileave.com.au for assistance.

Yes, most community pharmacies accept electronic prescriptions (escripts) An eScript is a digital version of a paper script, which the doctor sends you to your phone/email as a QR code or token. Whilst most pharmacies accept and can process escripts, it is best to check with the pharmacy if they are able to accept escripts as some small pharmacies, for example, may not be equipped to process escripts yet.

Yes, if you are a carer or guardian, although the patient needs to provide their consent to the doctor.

Our Partner Doctors cannot prescribe Schedule 8 (S8) or Schedule 4D (S4D) medications via telehealth.

Once the doctor approves your prescription during your consultation, the script is sent instantly via sms or email to you, within minutes
