How do eScripts work?

Getting your medication has never been easier. Here’s how our digital prescription system works.

Receive Your eScript

Instead of handing you a paper script, your doctor sends you a text message or email containing a link to a unique QR code, or token.

1

Show at Any Pharmacy

Your pharmacist scans the QR code on your phone (or tablet) to retrieve the details of your script and fill your medication.

2

When you're feeling unwell, looking after someone who needs you or needing to organise leave at short notice, finding healthcare that fits around work, study or family responsibilities can be tough. In-person visits and waiting rooms can often make things harder when you just need the right paperwork delivered quickly. Time pressure combined with uncertainty about an online provider's legitimacy, workplace or university acceptance and privacy safeguards can also lead people to hesitate. Here, MediLeave offers assistance. Being a trusted Australian telehealth platform, we provide accessible support through an uncomplicated experience. Telehealth allows you to consult with a doctor online without needing to attend a face-to-face appointment. We connect you directly with Australian-registered practitioners who operate in accordance with AHPRA and RACGP standards, helping to ensure care is delivered in line with recognised standards in healthcare. Whether you are at home, at work, or out and about, we help you access services in a way that is practical and efficient. Each request is managed with clinical oversight and an unwavering emphasis on professionalism, responsible service delivery and privacy. So, whether you're looking up "Quick Scripts" or "Refill Script", you can rely on us.

A quick and reliable way to take action is often what people want when everyday health needs come up. Needing to wait for a face-to-face appointment, however, could slow down things like getting a medical certificate, speaking with a doctor or requesting a prescription. MediLeave puts these essential services in one accessible online platform, helping you take care of common healthcare needs entirely online. You can request medical certificates for work, school or carer's leave, including documentation to meet your workplace and institutional requirements. Telehealth consultations are also available, giving you access to experienced doctors, nurses and pharmacists by phone or video consultation. Without going in-person to a clinic, this makes it easier to get advice, referrals or treatment guidance for concerns like contraception options, hair loss treatment, erectile dysfunction, and ear and dental infections. For ongoing care, you can request new or repeat online prescriptions, with eScripts sent directly to your phone and ready to use at your local pharmacy. By offering these services all in one place, we provide a practical and accessible way to stay on top of your health with confidence, so you can search for "Refill Script", "Private Prescription Online" or "Purchase Scripts Online" without worry.

We developed every stage of the MediLeave experience with transparency and clarity in mind. Simply submit your request online whenever it suits you, whether that is early in the morning, after hours or during a busy workday. After that, based on the information you provided, a qualified Australian practitioner will review your request carefully. If approved, you can then receive your certificate, prescription or consultation outcome straight to your phone by email or SMS. Further, our flat-fee pricing means the cost is clear from the start, with no hidden fees and no extra charges for after-hours or weekend consults. Our secure platform also uses bank-grade encryption to protect your information, and help is available by email or phone if you have questions about the process or "After Hours Doctor Hobart" and "After Hours Doctor Gold Coast". We reduce friction and give you confidence to proceed by keeping the platform simple and intuitive for users unfamiliar with telehealth services; that ease applies as you turn to us for guidance when you're curious about "instant scripts online" and "online scripts australia". However, we want you to keep in mind that our service isn't designed for emergency concerns. You need to go to the nearest emergency department or call 000 if you are experiencing an urgent situation. As for non-emergency and everyday health matters, book a telehealth consult today.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our telehealth services

At MediLeave, you can request instant scripts online at any time, as our bookings are available 24/7.

A doctor will review each request to assess the situation and determine whether a prescription or specialist referral online is clinically appropriate, ensuring that care remains safe, responsible and based on individual needs.

When requesting online prescriptions or eScripts in Australia, you will need to provide a few key details, such as your personal information and a short summary of your health concern or request.

It is also a requirement in Australia that, in order to receive an eScript, you must either have a Medicare number or an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). This is because your identity needs to be verified through the national healthcare system.

If you don’t have either of these, you can still have a telehealth consultation and receive a paper prescription instead.

Getting an IHI is the workaround if you want a digital prescription. You can still apply for an IHI online via myGov using an ID like a passport, even if you’re:

  • a visitor
  • an international student
  • not eligible for Medicare

Once you have an IHI, you can use eScripts like anyone else.

Even with access to the best online doctor Australia has to offer, script consultations are conducted privately on a one-on-one basis, ensuring a personal and discreet experience.

At MediLeave, users join a queue and receive a direct call from a doctor, allowing the discussion to remain confidential. All information provided is treated as personal and sensitive health data in line with Australian privacy laws.

To support data protection, we use 256-bit bank grade security and encryption to protect your personal and medical information throughout the consultation process.

For repeat prescriptions, your pharmacist will send you a new QR code after each repeat is dispensed. This happens until all the repeats are complete, so you will need to keep the new message until it’s time to get your medicine again.

If you accidentally delete a message with a QR code you will need to go back to your doctor to ask for a new eScript, just like you would if you lost a paper script.

Yes. Your details and script are kept private and secure through encryption (a secure way of sending information). Your script can only be ‘unlocked’ by a pharmacist.

Our team of Partner Doctors are fully registered Australian doctors who can prescribe any medication that is clinically appropriate for your needs. All our doctors follow AHPRA guidelines to ensure safe and responsible care.

Please note that some medications cannot be prescribed via a telehealth consultation such as S8 medications, controlled substances, narcotics or any controlled drugs and medications requiring close monitoring by a doctor. Our partner doctors reserve the right to decline prescribing any medication or refusing to provide Medical Certificates, based on their professional medical advice.

At MediLeave we uphold the highest standards of healthcare. Online Prescriptions will only be issued if deemed appropriate by our doctors.

There are various reasons why you may be declined access for a prescription, and the doctor has the authority to decline your request if they determine that it is not in your best interest or suitable for your condition. Other reasons could be due to contraindications, your medical history or the absence of a definitive diagnosis. In such circumstances, the doctor will recommend an alternative treatment that is better suited to you or recommend that you seek further assistance and advice in person.

1. First of all, check with the doctor that they have your correct details- a typo on your phone number or email can create this problem. Sometimes there might have been an issue with internet/ wi-fi connection at the moment the eScript was sent, and it might take a few minutes to come through to you.

2. If it still does not arrive, the doctor can double check on their side to see if there was an issue with sending it (this can happen if there is a problem with a person’s Medicare details or “IHI” number (individual health identifier).

3. If the issue still persists the doctor may try to “re-send” it to you, and see if that works.

4. If this still fails, please email our team : info@medileave.com.au for assistance.

Yes, most community pharmacies accept electronic prescriptions (escripts) An eScript is a digital version of a paper script, which the doctor sends you to your phone/email as a QR code or token. Whilst most pharmacies accept and can process escripts, it is best to check with the pharmacy if they are able to accept escripts as some small pharmacies, for example, may not be equipped to process escripts yet.

Yes, if you are a carer or guardian, although the patient needs to provide their consent to the doctor.

Our Partner Doctors cannot prescribe Schedule 8 (S8) or Schedule 4D (S4D) medications via telehealth.

Once the doctor approves your prescription during your consultation, the script is sent instantly via sms or email to you, within minutes
