How do eScripts work?

Getting your medication has never been easier. Here’s how our digital prescription system works.

Receive Your eScript

Instead of handing you a paper script, your doctor sends you a text message or email containing a link to a unique QR code, or token.

1

Show at Any Pharmacy

Your pharmacist scans the QR code on your phone (or tablet) to retrieve the details of your script and fill your medication.

2

Benefits of using eScripts

No need to worry about lost paper. Your script arrives instantly via SMS or email, always accessible on your phone.

Instant Telehealth Delivery

Perfect for telehealth consultations. Receive your medication script instantly without needing to visit a clinic in person.

Learn more about Repeat Prescription

If you're handling work, study or caregiving responsibilities, added stress from health problems is the last thing you need. We recognise it's tough when you're unwell, looking after someone or suddenly needing to sort leave at the last minute. Not to mention, the time spent in waiting rooms or last-second GP appointments can interrupt your schedule, particularly when you simply need the correct documentation to get things done. MediLeave is here to take the stress off your plate at these moments, as we're an Australian telehealth platform designed to connect you with practitioners. Our online service provides professional, compliant medical advice and documentation, so your routine and travel can stay on track. Our service brings healthcare closer to you, allowing you to quickly connect with a doctor online, whether you're at home, in the office or anywhere your day takes you in Australia. Whether you live in rural areas, manage a full day or have reduced mobility, our platform is designed for straightforward access and minimal disruption. Whether you're looking into "Repeat Prescription" or beyond, all our practitioners are Australian-registered and follow RACGP and AHPRA standards, so you can feel confident your request will be handled with professionalism, clarity and care every time.

Securing the right medical certificate promptly can make life easier when you're handling work, study or caregiving roles. That's why we focus on delivering online medical certificates for work, school, university or carer's leave, all without the need for a clinic visit. All certificates are designed to meet Australian workplace and institutional standards, providing clear, compliant documentation you can use to verify absences. If a practitioner does not approve your request, our 100% money back guarantee removes risk for first-time users and helps everyone feel confident in making an online request. To help with everyday healthcare, we also provide access to telehealth consultations, carer's certificates and referrals. What's more, you can speak to experienced doctors, pharmacists and nurses via phone or video for online prescriptions or advice on a range of common needs, such as cold and flu symptoms, contraception and birth control, UTIs or migraines. You may ask for new electronic prescriptions (or eScripts) or change existing ones through a secure online process, with the eScripts delivered directly to your phone for easy pickup at your local pharmacy. Whether you're discovering more information about "Renew Scripts Online" or "Renew Prescription", our services are designed to make your experience easier.

Predictable costs and easy-to-follow processes help you decide quickly, so we keep things simple and transparent from the beginning. We charge a single flat fee on our platform, so there are no surprise charges or added fees for after-hours or weekends. Be it a medical certificate or telehealth support you're after, submitting a request is simple, and it will be evaluated by a qualified Australian practitioner. Following approval, your documentation or consultation outcome will be sent securely via email or SMS. With an average completion time of minutes to an hour, medical certificate requests help you stay in control when you need support early in the morning or outside regular hours. You can access support without disrupting your schedule since same-day telehealth appointments are available every day between 7am and 11pm AEST. On top of that, we protect your details with a secure, encrypted platform. If you need help, we're available via email or phone, with our team ready to answer questions related to "specialist referral online" or "instant scripts online". However, while you can look up "Gp Access After Hours" or "Online Scripts Adelaide" and get guidance through our intuitive platform, you should always go to your nearest emergency department or call 000 for urgent or life-threatening health needs. Otherwise, arrange a telehealth consult now.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our telehealth services

At MediLeave, you can request instant scripts online at any time, as our bookings are available 24/7.

A doctor will review each request to assess the situation and determine whether a prescription or specialist referral online is clinically appropriate, ensuring that care remains safe, responsible and based on individual needs.

When requesting online prescriptions or eScripts in Australia, you will need to provide a few key details, such as your personal information and a short summary of your health concern or request.

It is also a requirement in Australia that, in order to receive an eScript, you must either have a Medicare number or an Individual Healthcare Identifier (IHI). This is because your identity needs to be verified through the national healthcare system.

If you don’t have either of these, you can still have a telehealth consultation and receive a paper prescription instead.

Getting an IHI is the workaround if you want a digital prescription. You can still apply for an IHI online via myGov using an ID like a passport, even if you’re:

  • a visitor
  • an international student
  • not eligible for Medicare

Once you have an IHI, you can use eScripts like anyone else.

Even with access to the best online doctor Australia has to offer, script consultations are conducted privately on a one-on-one basis, ensuring a personal and discreet experience.

At MediLeave, users join a queue and receive a direct call from a doctor, allowing the discussion to remain confidential. All information provided is treated as personal and sensitive health data in line with Australian privacy laws.

To support data protection, we use 256-bit bank grade security and encryption to protect your personal and medical information throughout the consultation process.

For repeat prescriptions, your pharmacist will send you a new QR code after each repeat is dispensed. This happens until all the repeats are complete, so you will need to keep the new message until it’s time to get your medicine again.

If you accidentally delete a message with a QR code you will need to go back to your doctor to ask for a new eScript, just like you would if you lost a paper script.

Yes. Your details and script are kept private and secure through encryption (a secure way of sending information). Your script can only be ‘unlocked’ by a pharmacist.

Our team of Partner Doctors are fully registered Australian doctors who can prescribe any medication that is clinically appropriate for your needs. All our doctors follow AHPRA guidelines to ensure safe and responsible care.

Please note that some medications cannot be prescribed via a telehealth consultation such as S8 medications, controlled substances, narcotics or any controlled drugs and medications requiring close monitoring by a doctor. Our partner doctors reserve the right to decline prescribing any medication or refusing to provide Medical Certificates, based on their professional medical advice.

At MediLeave we uphold the highest standards of healthcare. Online Prescriptions will only be issued if deemed appropriate by our doctors.

There are various reasons why you may be declined access for a prescription, and the doctor has the authority to decline your request if they determine that it is not in your best interest or suitable for your condition. Other reasons could be due to contraindications, your medical history or the absence of a definitive diagnosis. In such circumstances, the doctor will recommend an alternative treatment that is better suited to you or recommend that you seek further assistance and advice in person.

1. First of all, check with the doctor that they have your correct details- a typo on your phone number or email can create this problem. Sometimes there might have been an issue with internet/ wi-fi connection at the moment the eScript was sent, and it might take a few minutes to come through to you.

2. If it still does not arrive, the doctor can double check on their side to see if there was an issue with sending it (this can happen if there is a problem with a person’s Medicare details or “IHI” number (individual health identifier).

3. If the issue still persists the doctor may try to “re-send” it to you, and see if that works.

4. If this still fails, please email our team : info@medileave.com.au for assistance.

Yes, most community pharmacies accept electronic prescriptions (escripts) An eScript is a digital version of a paper script, which the doctor sends you to your phone/email as a QR code or token. Whilst most pharmacies accept and can process escripts, it is best to check with the pharmacy if they are able to accept escripts as some small pharmacies, for example, may not be equipped to process escripts yet.

Yes, if you are a carer or guardian, although the patient needs to provide their consent to the doctor.

Our Partner Doctors cannot prescribe Schedule 8 (S8) or Schedule 4D (S4D) medications via telehealth.

Once the doctor approves your prescription during your consultation, the script is sent instantly via sms or email to you, within minutes
