How do eScripts work?
Receive Your eScript
Instead of handing you a paper script, your doctor sends you a text message or email containing a link to a unique QR code, or token.
Show at Any Pharmacy
Your pharmacist scans the QR code on your phone (or tablet) to retrieve the details of your script and dispenses as normal.
Multiple Medications
If you have more than one medication prescribed, your doctor will send you a token for each one. The message contains the name of the medicine so you can tell the difference between each script.
Track Your Scripts
Once your pharmacist scans the QR code and dispenses your medication, you can no longer use the same token. You can always check whether an eScript has been filled by clicking the link in your message.
Family & Carer Friendly
If a carer or family member normally collects your medicine on your behalf, all you need to do is forward them the message so they can continue to collect it for you.
Benefits of using eScripts
Reduce Medication Mistakes
Digital scripts eliminate errors caused by illegible handwriting, ensuring your pharmacist dispenses exactly what was prescribed.
Never Lose a Script
No need to worry about lost paper. Your script arrives instantly via SMS or email, always accessible on your phone.
Instant Telehealth Delivery
Perfect for telehealth consultations. Receive your medication script instantly without needing to visit a clinic in person.
Environmentally Friendly
Going digital reduces paper waste, making eScripts a greener choice for you and the planet.
*A valid Medicare or IHI number is required
Frequently asked questions
How do repeat prescriptions work with escripts?
For repeat prescriptions, your pharmacist will send you a new QR code after each repeat is dispensed. This happens until all the repeats are complete, so you will need to keep the new message until it’s time to get your medicine again.
If you accidentally delete a message with a QR code you will need to go back to your doctor to ask for a new eScript, just like you would if you lost a paper script.
Are eScripts safe?
Yes. Your details and script are kept private and secure through encryption (a secure way of sending information). Your script can only be ‘unlocked’ by a pharmacist.
What type of medication can I request?
Our team of Partner Doctors are fully registered Australian doctors who can prescribe any medication that is clinically appropriate for your needs. All our doctors follow AHPRA guidelines to ensure safe and responsible care.
Please note that some medications cannot be prescribed via a telehealth consultation such as S8 medications, controlled substances, narcotics or any controlled drugs and medications requiring close monitoring by a doctor. Our partner doctors reserve the right to decline prescribing any medication or refusing to provide Medical Certificates, based on their professional medical advice.
Am I guaranteed to receive a prescription?
At MediLeave we uphold the highest standards of healthcare. Online Prescriptions will only be issued if deemed appropriate by our doctors.
There are various reasons why you may be declined access for a prescription, and the doctor has the authority to decline your request if they determine that it is not in your best interest or suitable for your condition. Other reasons could be due to contraindications, your medical history or the absence of a definitive diagnosis. In such circumstances, the doctor will recommend an alternative treatment that is better suited to you or recommend that you seek further assistance and advice in person.
What if the eScript does not come through to my phone or email as expected?
1. First of all, check with the doctor that they have your correct details- a typo on your phone number or email can create this problem. Sometimes there might have been an issue with internet/ wi-fi connection at the moment the eScript was sent, and it might take a few minutes to come through to you.
2. If it still does not arrive, the doctor can double check on their side to see if there was an issue with sending it (this can happen if there is a problem with a person’s Medicare details or “IHI” number (individual health identifier).
3. If the issue still persists the doctor may try to “re-send” it to you, and see if that works.
4. If this still fails, please email our team : info@medileave.com.au for assistance.
Do all pharmacies accept e-scripts?
Yes, most community pharmacies accept electronic prescriptions (escripts) An eScript is a digital version of a paper script, which the doctor sends you to your phone/email as a QR code or token. Whilst most pharmacies accept and can process escripts, it is best to check with the pharmacy if they are able to accept escripts as some small pharmacies, for example, may not be equipped to process escripts yet.
Can I order a script on behalf of another person?
Yes, if you are a carer or guardian, although the patient needs to provide their consent to the doctor.
What medications can not be prescribed online via telehealth
Our Partner Doctors cannot prescribe Schedule 8 (S8) or Schedule 4D (S4D) medications via telehealth.
How long does it take to receive my eScript?
Once the doctor approves your prescription during your consultation, the script is sent instantly via sms or email to you, within minutes
