What is a Telehealth Consultation in Australia?
How can I find a doctor near me?
With MediLeave, the nearest doctor is right in your pocket. You no longer need to search for local clinics or wait for an available appointment. Our platform connects you with AHPRA-registered doctors Australia-wide via telehealth. Simply complete a quick online questionnaire from home, and a doctor will review your request and contact you directly. It’s healthcare that moves with you, wherever you are in Australia.
Can I get online prescriptions if I don't have a Medicare card?
Yes. However, you will need to provide us with your Individual Health Identifier (IHI) which can be obtained from IHI – Services Australia. This can be created by any foreign passport holder with valid Australian visa.
Are MediLeave’s Telehealth services bulk-billed ?
We offer highly competitive flat-fee pricing for medical services that is often cheaper than out-of-pocket expense on Medicare-funded services. The Australian Government does not permit Medicare rebates for any telehealth provider where a face-to-face consultation has not previously occurred in the last 12 months. This means you cannot claim your MediLeave consultation with Medicare.
Are MediLeave’s doctors AHPRA registered?
You can trust MediLeave. Every MediLeave doctor is an AHPRA-registered and fully-insured doctor based in Australia who will adhere to the highest clinical standards. All medical certificates will have the doctor’s AHPRA registration number and your doctor’s prescriber number will be included on any prescription that is prescribed . A doctor’s provider number can also be provided if required for private insurance claim purposes.
Is telehealth right for me/my condition?
You can speak to our AHPRA-registered Partner Doctors about anything you’d speak to an in-person doctor about. Our Partner Doctors are on hand to help with things like medical certificates, new and repeat scripts, specialist referral letters, sensitive topics (like pregnancy matters, STIs/STDs, thrush, and UTIs), and more. We’re here to help!
How do I get an online prescription or script repeat?
If you’ve run out of your regular medication or you require a new medication you can request a script from our doctors at a telehealth consult for over 300 medications. If a script is approved, a QR code will be sent to your phone and/or email address. You can take it to any pharmacy for dispensing. Please note though that our doctors can not provide prescriptions for certian medications via telehealth, such as Schedule 8 medicines, addictive medicines, ADHD medication and weight loss injections. All prescriptions are at the sole discretion of the doctor and provided only if deemed suitable for your condition.
What if I miss the telehealth doctor’s call?
The doctor will make up to three attempts to call you on the number you have provided, so please try to keep your phone free. They may call you from a private number (you won’t be able to call the doctor back on this number).
How do I find an online doctor near me in Australia?
You don’t have to with MediLeave. You can simply consult with an AHPRA-registered Partner Doctor from anywhere in Australia right from your phone. Our online medical certificates are provided via a telehealth consult. Although ‘tele’ is in the name, all you need to do is complete a quick questionnaire, and a Partner Doctor will review your request and contact you with any follow up questions. It’s hassle-free and convenient.The doctor will make up to three attempts to call you on the number you have provided, so please try to keep your phone free. They may call you from a private number (you won’t be able to call the doctor back on this number).
When will the doctor call me after I make a request?
In most cases, you’ll receive a call from the doctor within an hour of making a request. However, keep in mind that the doctors are online 6am to midnight and demand can fluctuate.
Do I need special equipment/ what do I need for a telehealth call?
For a MediLeave telehealth appointment, you really don’t need much—just a few basics to keep things smooth and stress-free:
- Device: A smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. Anything with a camera and microphone works.
- Internet connection: A stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection so the video doesn’t freeze or drop out.
- Camera & microphone: Most devices have these built-in, but if you’re using a desktop, you might need a webcam and mic.
- Quiet space: Somewhere private and quiet so you can chat comfortably without distractions.
- No software needed: Our telehealth platform run through your browsr—no setup required!

Yes, our medical certificates are legally valid and accepted by employers, educational institutions, and government agencies across Australia. They are issued by AHPRA-registered doctors and meet all legal requirements.

We aim for a seamless experience, but technology can occasionally be unpredictable. If you encounter issues with your connection, here is how to resolve them quickly:
Technical Support & Connection Issues
- Missing Consultation Link: Check your junk or spam folder first. If it’s not there, email us on: info@medileave.com.au to have a new email and SMS link sent to you.
- Issues Joining the Waiting Room: Refresh your browser page. If the issue persists, close the window and re-click the original link from your SMS or email.
- Disconnected or Closed Page: Don’t worry—simply click your original consultation link again to jump back into the session.
- Doctor Has Not Joined: If the doctor hasn’t joined the call, please contact our support team at info@medileave.com.au for an immediate update or a new link.
Video & Audio Troubleshooting
If your camera or microphone isn’t working during your call, follow these quick steps:
- Grant Permissions: Ensure you have clicked “Allow” when your browser or the app asks for camera and microphone access.
- Check App Interference: Close other apps that might be using your camera (like FaceTime, Zoom, or Teams).
- Switch Browsers: Try to use another web browser
- Network Stability: Switch from a weak Wi-Fi signal to 4G/5G, or move closer to your router.
- Restart: A quick restart of your browser or device often clears minor software glitches.
